Why We Crave Horror Movies: Reading Log #1

I did not expect this story to be as outrageous as it is. I expected it to be boring and not catch my attention at all. The first line is what definitely caught my eye he said, “I think that we’re all mentally ill; those of us outside the asylums only hide it a little better – and maybe not all that much better, after all”. When Stephen King made that statement, it made me think about things that I never usually think about. I am a person that is outside the asylum and maybe I am a little crazy. Maybe I am crazy because if I was trying out for the cheer team I might try to do something that I have never done before, let’s say a backflip and put myself in danger of breaking something just to make the team. It also made me think about the people who decide to drink and drive those are the crazy people. Drunk drivers know the harm they could cause to themselves and the people around them, but they put their lives in danger and other people’s lives in danger. So I absolutely agree with Stephen King when he says, “The Mythic…like the sick joke has a dirt job to do. It deliberately appeals to all that is worst in us”. The worst in some people is racism, or maybe it is just the desire to hurt others. That is why I also agree with what he said about the joke bringing out the worst in us. Only someone racist would find that joke to be funny, or only...
