Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company or PLDT is the leading telecommunication provider in the Philippines with approximately 41 wireless subscribers and nearly 2 million fixed lines. PLDT offers the largest and most diversified range of telecommunications services across the Philippines which include main business segments such as wireless, fixed lines, and business process outsourcing or most commonly known as BPO.

PLDT is included in the telecommunication industry and companies in this industry usually operates or provides access to facilities for voice, data, text, sound, and video transmission through wired, wireless, or satellite networks. Currently, the operating subsidiaries of PLDT when it comes to wireless cellular services are Smart Communications, Talk 'N Text, and Sun Cellular. The main competitors of PLDT are Globe Telecom when it comes to fixed line as well as mobile markets, and also Bayan Telecommunications (BayanTel) who is also a major fixed line provider.

In the Philippines, there is a government agency under the Department of Transportation and Communications which is the National Telecommunications Commission or NTC.
