Currently, Kudler Fine Foods uses a dedicated T3 line WAN connecting the La Jolla Store and Home, Del Mar store, and Encinitas store. All stores use two Cisco routers and firewalls which allow the communication between all three stores. Before addressing the need to update the WAN connecting each store, current network characteristics and components need reference. Additionally, the topology of the current connection consists of a WAN connection. With all projects, standards provide a road map for progressing communications among the three Kudler Fine Foods locations.

Network Characteristics

Furthermore, Kudler Fine Foods uses WAN to connect all three stores; each store has a 100 base T Ethernet running the in-store network. The La Jolla store network consists of the main server for the company – an IBM blade server system c3000 that runs UNIX; this server handles corporate SAP ERP software and other tasks such as print/files services, network services, email, storage control, and the web. Both the Del Mar and Encinitas store contain the same server, but the server within these two stores only runs print/file services, network services, email, storage control, and the web. Because the La Jolla store is the main office, this office contains 19 VOIP phones, while the two other stores have a total of 12 – six from each store. Each store communicates with the use of two Cisco routers and firewalls on an interconnected store network with separate 25 Mbps link to the Ethernet.

Current Network Topology

Additionally, each store has different hardware to support. The La Jolla store network includes 19 computers with 13 corporate administrators and six store management. La Jolla network also houses an NAS 10 TB backup for the IBM blade server c3000 system, NCR POS management software, and three printers.
