Subject: Sponsoring an organization at LSU

We have been in recent discussion about our firms need for diversity. Annually we interview an average of 20 individuals for both full time and internship positions. Of those 20, about 2 are minorities. Only 10% of our interview pool includes minority students and we typically hire a minority employee every 2 years. We need to increase diversity because having diverse employees can add a unique perspective on problems and ideas and can diversify our clientele.

Proposed Solution

I propose that we sponsor the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) at LSU. This is a group of 25-30 business minority students. They have biweekly meetings with accounting firms and industry companies that discuss topics such as professional dress and interviewing skills. They also provide a resume book that includes all of the resumes of their members before the meeting. These students have an average GPA of 3.2 and they attend regional and national conferences twice a year. They are continuously improving their professional skills and they would be an excellent fit for our internship program. Sponsoring this organization will increase the percentage of minority students that we interview from 10% to 25% just by interviewing 5 students from this organization.

Implementation

Since this is our first year considering sponsoring this organization, I recommend that we start with the Purple level sponsorship. This sponsorship is $500.

It includes:

* Sponsoring a student for their Regional Student Conference

* Recognition at the LSU Accounting Scholarship Banquet

* Sponsoring a meeting with 25-30 students

* Our logo included on shirts for Conferences & Spring Event

* Linked company logo on their website...
