Mr. Angelo Camero would like to expand his already successful business. With the expansion of his restaurants he has uncovered many HR issues present and potential. Five areas of major concern have been identified and can be addressed.

The first area to explore is how to apply knowledge of the Millennial Generation to challenges of performing the HR functions. This is clearly identified as an issue by Angelo. Angelo is a hardworking, entrepreneurial small business owner. With hard work and a focus on quality he has quickly expanded his business to four restaurants. Unfortunately now he is having difficulties recruiting and more importantly retaining new employees. He readily admits that his training of new employees is limited and many of the good employees leave in frustration after a few weeks. On page 9 of the Dessler text Millennials are described as high performance and high maintenance. Furthermore they seek out creative challenges and want to make an impact on Day 1. In addition to limited training, Angelo’s employee growth module lacks retention, goal setting and positive performance feedback. All of these job enhancements are important to the Millennial Generation. Millennials are more likely to buy and recommend products based on a friend’s recommendation. The second concept for consideration is how recruiting strategies impact the competitive advantage of a firm. Angelo has little or no recruiting strategies to partner with his business strategy. He states that his only means of recruitment is to place advertisements in the local newspaper.
