Steve Morgan’s Profile

Steve Morgan’s management style seems to be very authoritarian. The low level management of the Hong Kong Avionics is very unsatisfied with Steve’s management style. They feel that the upper management or the former students of Steve are more looked after than them. Although Steve stresses his employees to be team players but the ‘pecking order’ of the organization makes it really difficult for the research scientists and technicians to work as a team. Many employees think that Steve is insensitive towards them and he is also aloof as he is mostly not available when his staff needs his supervision. Based on the aspects of self awareness, Steve’s manager profile is described below.

Values

Steve seems to put a lot of emphasis on personal preferences. All his head’s of staff are the people that he has hired based on random guidelines and because they all were his former students. This also goes to show that he is low on personal instrumental values.

Learning styles

Steve can be termed as a sensing manager. It is mentioned in the case study that he puts too much emphasis on details and too much supervision even when it is not required. But it can also be observed that he is an intuitive manager too when it comes to hiring because he did hire his former students. This shows that relationships are important for him.

Attitude towards change

Steve has a low tolerance for ambiguity. The case study says that the drafts his team sent him on one of the proposals he rewrote it in the way he wanted it and did not offer any explanation to the corrections either. This shows that he would have the work done his way so that he doesn’t have to face any ambiguous situation.
