Business Report on policies in the work place: Manchester United FC

The purpose of writing this report is to identify two key formal and informal policies that are used in practise within the front of house department of Manchester United Football Club. After establishing these four policies it is important to critically analyse them using relevant law and theory, to be able to determine how effective, or ineffective, they are within the workplace for all the relevant stakeholders and to what purpose they serve.

Uniform and Grooming Policy

One policy Manchester United fully support and implement is a strict uniform and personal appearance standard for all front of house staff. They require all members of staff to provide their own plain black trousers and plain black leather shoes. The upper body half of the uniform is provided by Manchester United, which is issued when checking in for the start of each shift. These must then be returned before leaving the premises at the end of a shift. A failure to return any item of uniform that has been issued may result in a deduction from an employee’s wages.

As well as the uniform requirements, Manchester United also have strict personal appearance standards. Jewellery of any kind is not permitted, long hair must be tied back using a plain black hair bobble, grip or headband and males must be clean shaven or have neat and tidy facial hair, to name a few. As part of this policy Manchester United do reserve the right to withdraw any offer of work to a casual worker not complying with it.

There are a number of reasons why Manchester United enforce a strict dress code policy. Firstly is due to the Health and Safety laws and regulations that they must adhere to.
