What is the difference between controlled and uncontrolled documents?

The difference between controlled and uncontrolled documents refer to the degree of control over the documents. For example, in most companies, training materials do not require a high degree of document control whereas work instructions and procedures may require a certain degree of approval and control (Walter, 2002). Training documents or uncontrolled documents used in the aviation industry often have “for training purposes only” printed on cover sheets of the document. This is to ensure that there is a clear differentiation between the two types of documents.

Discuss the purpose of Advisory Circulars (AC)?

Advisory Circulars are documents that are produced by a regulatory body such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to inform and guide institutions, operations, and individuals on aviation related topics. It is important to note that AC are meant to be informative in nature and not to be seen as a form of regulation. The types of AC include directional or informational. ACs are issued for many reasons such as standardization of opinions regarding a regulation or work procedure as well as a safety precaution to inform relevant people of changes to a regulation (Houston, n.d.).

The role of the ATA is to promote the air transportation industry and the safety, cost effectiveness, and technological advancements of its operations. They work mainly work with airlines, labor representatives, congress and regulatory bodies to foster a business and regulated environment that ensures safe and secure air transportation to enable the airline to flourish thereby contributing to economic growth nationally and internationally (Airlines for America, n.d.).
