Design a Flow Chart for a Process

In this paper I will design a “Flow Chart” for a process of collecting failures based on components and not workmanship. I perform this task daily in my line of work. I will comment on the factors that affect the design process and identify one metric used to measure the design process.

Processes are used daily in one’s day- to- day activities but are never acknowledged or identified unless they are documented like those where one is employed. According to Chase, R.B, Jacobs, F.R. and Aquilano, N.J (2006), “a process is any part of an organization that takes inputs and transforms them into outputs that, it is hoped, are of greater value to the organization than the original inputs.” Processes in any business identify what a firm does and who in management is responsible for the process. Processes have a metric (standard) linked to them to identify a time frame when a process starts and is completed. Metrics calculates the framework of a specific process. A process is also a form of monitoring and determining the success of a firm conducting business. Sequentially, I will use my design process flow chart to determine when a UUT (unit under test) failure is attributed to workmanship or to a component failure. A reliable way to analyze a process is with flow chart diagram. The flow chart will illustrate the basic elements of my design process flow and task associated. “Flow charts are easy-to-understand diagrams showing how steps in a process fit together. The act of mapping a process out in flow chart format helps you clarify your understanding of the process, and helps you think about where the process can be improved” (Mind Tools, 1997,p. 1). The flow chart and metric in my process establishes the steps and timeframe. The start of the process is turning on the...
