There are a wide variety of Internet resources that have taken over this generation. The Internet is one of many new waves of technology that is having an impact in every home across the nation. One of the Internet resources that has had a significant influence is Amazon.com. It has become an evolution. Throughout this paper we will be addressing the purpose of Amazon.com and its future. We will also be discussing Amazon.com’s competitors and what Amazon.com is doing to separate itself from them. This paper will help provide insight into ways that Amazon.com manages data and its’ information systems. Last, we will discuss the affects of e-business and e-commerce in the Amazon.com world.

Database components

A database consists of a field, record, and a file or table. All have to be utilized in order for a database to exist. A field can consist of numbers, words, or even an image. When the fields are grouped together this creates a record. Multiple records create the file or table. The result of grouping the files together will constitute a database.

When Amazon invested $2 billion dollars back in 2007 to build the infrastructure for its’ online store, they only used a small fraction of the processing capacity (Rainer & Turban, 2009). While continuing to build their online business, the company branched out and offered file storage and processing capacity to other companies for a fee. They offered three services; Simple Storage Service (S3), Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), and the Mechanical Turk, all of which would provide storage space for data and applications or processing capacity.

Amazon’s infrastructure and how it is used

The Simple Storage Service (S3) is used for online storage of data and applications on the Amazon disk drives through a web service interface.
