Processing information is key part of the manager’s job. Being introspective and self-aware, it can help managers in effective decision making. Sitting in their office and reading mails all day in the competitive business environment, managers will lack information of their competitors. For this reason, managers tend to “cherish soft external information like the gossips, hearsay and speculation”. “Managers strongly favor verbal media, telephone calls and meetings, over documents.” Example would be taking important customers for lunch.

It is also equally important for managers keep their employees content. They must encourage and motivate them with the goals of the organization. Along with knowledge of technology, managers must also excel in being introspective and self-aware of their surroundings to gain competitive advantage.

“We need to know our strengths in order to know where we belong.” As a student, I am a hard worker. When given tasks to do, I tend to put in all my efforts i.e. time, energy, etc. to accomplish my goals in a set period of time. I am organized. With several courses this semester and reading lists at a single time, I have the ability to stay organized. I have written all the deadlines of the assignments and exams on a calendar.

In the past, I used to procrastinate. Diverted my intentions to smaller task rather than focusing on the big ones and leaving them for a later date. I believe working on my weakness would also classify as my strength too.

Depending on the task, I can either work in a group or work solo. If solving an issue or doing presentations in class, I like to work in groups as we all can share different opinions and expertise to come to a solution.

As the article states, the first thing you need to know whether you are reader or a listener. I am more comfortable reading materials. By reading I can remember the information for a longer period of time.
