Strategic Planning-Great Italian Food Company

The Board of Directors, headed by Mr. Marconi, is requesting assistance in developing a strategic plan in order to systematically determine their future. Mr. Marconi’s main concern is securing a lasting legacy for his children by growing his business. Mr. Marconi and his children each have their own vision of how the Great Italian Food Company should expand. Ideas range from expanding the number restaurants and in more locations, venturing into frozen food, opening an upscale eatery, and possibly opening other ethnic restaurants. Assisting the Board of Directors for the Great Italian Food Company in creating a strategic plan is much needed.

Mission and Vision Statement

The first order of business is for the Board of Directors to develop a mission and vision statement. Without those two statements the business has no real foundation to build off of and lack of direction to move the company forward. A mission states the purpose of an organization. The mission statement is the declaration of an organization’s core purpose and focus that normally remains unchanged over time. The organization’s core values will be embedded in the mission statement. This will dictate the ethics of the organization and the character it takes on. The vision statement is a formal statement that expresses the aspirations and goals of an organization.

Organization Environment

The planning stage goes hand in hand with the mission and vision of the company. Now GIFC can take the steps needed to deliver strategic value, build a dynamic organization, mobilize its employees, and evaluating its outcomes. Planning is a continuous process in which the organization uses their internal intellect and those of its customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities to create, seize, strengthen, and sustain competitive advantage (Brasfield, 2012).
