Essay One

Each generation will always be different from the last. The present young generation is very different from our parent’s generation, but this doesn’t mean one is good and the other is bad. Both have their own unique qualities that the other might not understand, like the type of music each generation likes to listen to. I think the most important thing about us that we would like them to know is that we cannot live life based on someone else’s experiences.

Our generation understands that they have been alive much longer than us and have been through a lot more. We get that they have more life experience and are much wiser. We look up to them and respect them but there are somethings we want to figure out on our own. We don’t need their guidance all the time.

I think this is important because we can make our own mistakes. If we constantly listen to them and fit to their mold, we will not mess up and we will never learn. And when they are out of our lives, we won’t be ready to take on the challenges that wait.

Our parents never had an iPhone or computer and our generation was born with them. They don’t understand why we use them so much and they don’t like it because they never experienced them. They see us staring at bright screens and burning out our eyes but in reality we are communicating with friends and building relationships. This is not how they lived life so they don’t want us to live it this way either.

In the end we just want to be successful and make our parents proud. But we need some space, we will learn most on our own. Realizations will come as they will. Think of life as a game, we don’t want someone else playing for us. We don’t intend to disobey our parents, were just trying to live on our own terms.
