The Walgreen Company is the leading U.S. drugstore chain in sales, store growth and technology. Walgreens currently owns more than 5000 stores located in 44 states and Puerto Rico. Since its establishment in 1901 by Charles R. Walgreen, Walgreens has been distinguishing itself from many of its competitors by proving an excellent customer service (McFarlane, Weinstein 2004).

Society/ Subcultures

A society and its subculture affect business performances a great deal, and the success of Walgreens Corporation is due to its commitment to appreciate and create value over time. As a nationwide business operating across different environments and social boundaries, it become essential for Walgreens to plan and customize its operation processes to allow accomplishment of its value proposition. Walgreens is one of the nation’s leading pharmaceutical stores with 3818 throughout the United States, accessible to its customers who live within a 5 mile radius of its stores. The corporation has earned the reputation of professionally dealing with its customers as well as a diverse work force that cuts across many possible obstacles such as languages, race, and cultures. Walgreens with its rich foundations have mastered a particular service of excellence that nearly all customers want to be serviced by it (McFarlane, Weinstein 2004).

Each May for the past nine years, Walgreens has run its "Hope Blooms with You" campaign, offering its customers the opportunity to buy a paper "bloom," representing a $1 contribution to the American Cancer Society. Walgreens stores feature "Hope Blooms with You" ads in institutional circulars appearing in newspapers nationwide and in-store materials to educate both the public and its employees about the promotion. Through this program, Walgreens has raised $10 million for the Society's breast cancer initiatives.
