A. Economic Trends
The Fujitsu Group provides ICT products and services, telecommunications infrastructure equipment, as well as semiconductors and other components, to corporate and institutional clients and consumers in every region of the globe. Hence, sales and income generated from these operations are greatly affected by economic conditions in each respective market. The economic trends in our key markets, namely Japan, North America, Europe, and Asia (including China), can significantly impact Fujitsu Group operations.
The dawn of the cloud era
With a rich pool of clients waiting for cloud service offerings, providers of cloud services will have their hands full starting 2011. Cloud computing is becoming the buzzword for some SMEs and MNCs alike. The demand to increase business productivity will pave the way for business organization to look into a new medium of managing and optimizing business systems – through the cloud.
OFW Remittances
Remittances of Overseas Filipino Workers have experienced remarkable growth in the past years. In 2008, remittances were valued by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas at $16.4B. This is 13.7% higher from last year. With the global economic downturn causing massive workforce downsizing in the United States and Europe, the BSP initially forecasted a flat growth for 20099. To cope with the global crisis, the government has aggressively marketed our Filipino workers abroad and forged hiring agreements with the Middle East, Japan, Canada, Korea and Australia. These measures were felt in the first months of the year as there was a 2.8% YOY increase as of May 2009 ($6.98B)
Relevance:
Overseas Filipino Workers have been widely known as a major contributor to the Philippine Economy. Remittances help fuel consumer spending. OFW and their families will have greater purchasing power.
