Physical activity has been shown to have positive effects on diseases by lessening the effects of the disease as well as increasing the survivability among many chronic diseases. Autism spectrum disorder is among these diseases in which research has shown that physical activity effects the condition in a positive way.

Autism is a large group of developmental brain disorders, which are collectively known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The term spectrum refers to the wide range of symptoms, skills, and levels of impairment, or disability, that children with ASD most commonly suffer from. Some children are mildly impaired while other are severely disabled by this condition. The symptoms for every child that is diagnosed with autism vary greatly. However, there are 3 general categories in which there symptoms fall. Social impairment is one category which children with autism struggle. Individuals with social impairments typically make little eye contact, look and listen less to people who are in their environment or fail to respond to others altogether. Children who suffer from social impairments also do not seek to share enjoyment of toys or activities by pointing or showing things to others. This an abnormal social response from what you would expect from a child. Many individuals also have difficulties communicating with others. They may be slow or fail to respond to things such as their name or other verbal attempts to gain their attention. They may also be delayed in developing gestures such as pointing and showing objects to others. Typically, babies who are diagnosed with autism begin their first year of life cooing, and babbling. However, over time they regress and stop doing so. language is also impaired,and is developed at a delayed pace in children. Usually, these children learn to communicate via pictures or develop their own sign language.
