My Learning Style: And How I Have Adapted

Every person has a learning style and most of us combine styles. There are three main learning styles; do you know what your style or styles are? The styles are audio learning, which are people who learn best by listening and hearing information. Visual learning or people who learn by seeing things, objects, displays and take note of interesting points that they can relate to. The last style is the tactile learner; the doer’s the people who learn by actually doing things hands on. Based on data taken from two questionnaires “Assessing Your Learning Style” (Kolb, 1984) and “Multiple Intelligences Survey” (McKenzie, 1999) I discovered that my learning style is Kinesthetic or tactile. Let’s discuss how I discovered my learning style and how I adapted to it to benefit my learning experience and I will discuss an example of how I applied this learning style. Identifying your own personal learning style is important not only to ourselves but to our educators to aid in a plan outlining how we as an individual learn most effective.

After describing the three basic learning styles and you have a basic understanding let’s concentrate on the tactile learner or the Kinesthetic Learning Style. The tactile learner will take action rather than thinking or planning what action to take. There are many positive attributes to a tactile learner, they usually have very good dexterity, can assemble and disassemble things proficiently and are very coordinated which makes them good at athletics.

Based on two questionnaires that I completed I decided I am a tactile learner. The first questionnaire “Assessing Your Learning Style” (Kolb, 1984) is broken into two lists and each list contained twenty questions regarding your habits. I scored seven out of twenty on each list and based on the survey results I am a Kinesthetic / Tactile Learner.
