ARGUMENTATIVE SYNTHESIS

The development of books in 2 version: online and printed are amongst the most considerable issues that humans now are concerning as it influences strongly in the reading culture and the habit of acquiring knowledge from books. While some people believe in bright future for advancement of paper books, others try to predict the death of this format and a powerful empire for online books. As the debate of this problems have been raised ceaselessly, two typical articles “Print books are not dying. In Fact, they seem to be making a comeback!” written by Angela Hoy and “why traditional books will eventually die” written by Michael Hyatt presenting contesting views. However, through his multiple perspectives and efficient use of evidence, Hoy’s argument is much more convincing than Hyatt’s.

Firstly, in terms of the perspectives presented, unlike Hyatt (2007) who only analyzes the issue in the printed book’s inefficiencies, Hoy (2014) argues more ideas about reader’s promotion for paper books, problems of e-books and the other side about the advantages of e-books. Due to variety of ideas, objective views about both formats have been expressed. In particular, Hoy (2014) implies that paper books and e-books; the readers should advocate them to be sold and read more, which ensures a more sustainable future for paper books. Despite of preferring printed books for their worthwhile investment, the audience still love e-books for their conveniences of time and vice versa (Para 3). Furthermore, in order to ascertain merits of paper books, the author mentions raises some problems of e-books such as the careful protection of reading devices and the reassurance “about the battery on your paperback or hardcover book dying” (Para 6,8).
