This paper will focus on a specific student case study. The student of focus is a kindergartener named Gabriel. Gabriel has cerebral palsy and is in a wheel chair. He also has to wear diapers and is tube fed. Gabriel is able to communicate some through eye contact but is otherwise nonverbal. He uses eye communication to make choices between two things. Gabriel has very limited strength in his hands and needs to work on improving this in order to grasp things without assistance. As this paper continues; the placement of Gabriel in a school setting, the related services he will require, technology devices and collaboration models will be addressed.

In order to meet Gabriel’s needs to the fullest in any setting he will be paired with a 1:1 paraprofessional who has knowledge and experience working with students who have cerebral palsy in a school setting. It is decided in Gabriel’s IEP meeting that he would benefit more from being placed in an inclusive classroom setting for the majority of the school day. By being placed in an inclusive setting Gabriel will gain the content knowledge that his peers are learning and gain social skills. The student will also work on the specific issues that he struggles with, through pull-out related services, and other challenges that he will be encouraged to overcome and master in the classroom through the help of his paraprofessional, his teacher and other classmates.

The regular education teacher is a very important part of Gabriel’s future success in the inclusive setting. She will need to first make sure that a collaboration model or plan is set up, and understood, between her, the para, the special education teacher, the related services personal and Gabriel’s parents.
