LAN Operating Systems Scenarios

Read the three scenarios below, and then answer the questions that follow each scenario.

1. You are the network administrator for a new company that has 10 users and plans to add five more users within a year. The files need to be accessed by all 10 users and each user must have different security rights. What kind of network would you install and how would the pieces and components of this network relate to each other? Define each component.

This type of network, I will use basic desktop computers for the 10 users and when the other five are needed they will be the same type of computers. These computers will be connected to each other through a hub, which will be connected to the internet. Each computer will have printer sharing, internet sharing, and password protected file sharing. Having protected file sharing will enable some files and programs to access by the user with the rights to using it.

2. You are the network administrator for a company that has a peer-to-peer network. How would the pieces and components of this network relate to each other? Define all of the components of this type of network.

On a peer-to-peer network all, sometimes referred to as a workgroup the computers on it are equal. These computers will have file sharing, printer sharing, and internet access available. Depending on how many computers are on the network will determine the type of router, switches, and internet connection used. Having the computers using a router or a switch will allow faster transfer of data and be able to connect multiple computers with ease in the future.

3. You are the administrator of a client-server environment. What kind of network would you install and how would the pieces and components of this network relate to each other? Define each component of a typical client-server environment.
