Ender’s Game

Ender Wiggins, the boy who has been chosen to save the human race, can not exactly be classified as a “hero”, at least not by my standards. To be classified as a hero in my mind, I believe that you have to make a conscious choice to take on the challenge that you face, and due to Enders situation, the choice he made was pushed along by the adult who is taking him away. Enders also has grown up in fear of his older brother Peter, who believes that he is cut out to make it in Battle School, and when Ender gets chosen he is extremely jealous. Throughout the novel Ender keeps running into challenges, and whenever he gets a more difficult challenge put in front of him, he excels and overcomes it. Once he figures out how to handle himself at Battle School, he becomes the leader and soldier that everyone had hoped he would become.

Enders grew up as a third child in a society that only allows you to have two children, but he is allowed to live on the restriction that he may be taken away to be trained as an officer in the worldly army. His older brother, Peter, was hopeful that he would be chosen, but he shows that he is a brutal killer who is not stable enough to be chosen as an officer. His older sister, Val, is the one person who Ender loves, and she is much more clever than Peter, but is also not chosen to be taken as a leader. The hope for Ender is that he will have a combination of the two skills that his older siblings have, and that he will become the once in a generation leader who will be able to lead the human army against the army of alien “buggers”

When Enders is 6 years old and gets his monitor taken off, he realizes that he will have to fend for himself now that there isn’t anyone watching over him. The first day that he no longer has the monitor, he is approached by some of the bullies at school.
