Competitive Advantages – Riordan Manufacturing

As with Google, Inc., Riordan Manufacturing operates in a global market offering several different product lines including fans; computer and personal, plastic water containers; which can be customized, and precision medical devices; stents and heart devices, within its brand. Riordan can adapt to new innovation and or consumer demand since it has the “capacity and technology to meet your unique needs (Apollo Group, Inc., 2013)” and can customize products to their customers’ demands as can Google with their customers advertising and product demands. In addition to having the ability to cater to their customer’s demands, both companies have taken steps to provide an encouraging and open work environment thus acknowledging that human capital is just as important of a competitive advantage as the ability to offer products that meet the current demand for without the people they cannot produce therefore grow. In an effort to be able and identify long-term strategic plans, both companies employ teams of people who are dedicated to new innovations and are constantly scanning for current and up and coming trends within their markets. The information they provide can change the focus of the current strategic plan in order to accommodate what the future goals are for the company, again giving the companies a competitive edge against their competitors; keeping them at the top of their industry. A competitive strategy that Riordan could use to improve innovation and sustainability both in the U.S. and China would be to focus more on developing more products within the precision medical devices division since the medical field will continue to expand and enhance in the way they operate and practice medicine.
