The issue of abuse is an old re-occurring issue which is becoming rampant in the health and social care sector, and the rate is increasing day by day. Some particular group of people or individuals experience it more than others.

Adults are vulnerable to abuse. The Department of Health classified an Adult abuse to anyone who is above 18 years. Adult abuse can be explained as the situation where there is no adequate or complete care for an adult who is dependent on getting care to survive, thereby causing more harm and distress to that vulnerable individual, like Mrs P, in the scenario given, whereby the family containing four people came in to live with her, without seeking her consent, this led to a more distress state for her, and she became more anxious because she has spent all her life living alone.

When talking on the issue of abuse, the high proportion of people facing this issue is people with health issues, for example; individuals with learning & physical disabilities, mental health conditions, in addition to this, according to a UK survey, about a quarter of vulnerable adult experience this issue of abuse like Mrs P.

In the case of the scenario, with Mrs P, she is vulnerable because she is dementia, and therefore cannot make any decision by herself, she has to rely on her son and daughter for survival , and as a result, her son has decide to take advantage of Mrs P’s state. For an adult to be abuse, it can occur anywhere, it can happen to an adult in the hospital, care homes or even in their homes, like in the case of Mrs P.
