Lifespan Development

Growth

Growth is a developmental process. This process affects the Physical, Intellectual and Emotional stages. Growth develops at different life stages. Growth is very rapid within the womb and in the first 2 years of life. Growth also develops rapidly when teenagers hit puberty.

Development

Development is the process up to maturity. Individuals develop at different life stages and not all at the same time. For example adolescents can hit puberty from the age of 11 to 14 or maybe even later, also adolescents will also develop a better understanding of emotions and feelings.

Developmental Norms

Developmental Norms are an age-related process where individual’s characteristics and abilities are developed. Here are the examples:

* Physical-These are changes within the body and nervous system

* Cognitive-These are the mental knowledge and understanding

* Emotional-These are emotions and how a person manages them

* Social-These are changes within communication and interaction

Physical Development -Body and Gross fine motor skills.

Intellectual Development – Growth of the brain and development of thoughts.

Emotional Development – Control of feelings and reaction of feelings.

Social Development- Making connections with people and becoming a part of society.

Pregnancy

First Trimester 1-12 weeks
