Part A

Table 1 is a table that illustrates the dwellings per tenure for Great Britain between 1801 and 2013 which has been adapted from the Office for National Statistics in 2015, it does not give a breakdown of the tenure until 1951 onwards, it also has to be noted that 1941 is missing in the table. You can see that in 1801 there were 1,937,000 dwellings in total compared to 27,151,000 in 2013, it is a massive increase in total number of dwellings as might be expected due to population increases. What is also evident is that although the total number for dwellings has nearly doubled from 1951 to 2013 the actual number of rented dwellings from local authorities has actually decreased by around 20% with their peak numbers being between 1971 to 1991. From 2001 to 2013 the number of owner occupied dwellings has stayed fairly even in numbers with only slight variances, whilst the number of privately rented dwellings has doubled, this with the increase in rented dwellings from housing associations has accounted for the increase in total number of dwellings but the fairly static number of owner occupied.

To build on the private rented dwellings the table illustrates the fact that the number of privately rented dwellings actually more than doubled from 2,404,000 to 5,044,000 between 2001 and 2013. His compared to the rest of the figures for the different dwellings has the largest increase in that time by far. In contrast to the privately rented dwellings the number of rented dwellings from local authorities has more than halved between 1991 and 2013. The peak in dwellings rented from local authorities was in 1981 with 6,388,000 dwellings, at that time this number was nearly double than both privately rented dwellings and dwellings rented from housing associations combined. The number of privately rented dwellings dipped slightly in 1991 by around 10%, this decrease in privately rented dwellings appeared to have been taken by owner occupied dwellings and...
