CHAPTER I

A. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Text messaging is an old trend among teenagers. But text messaging has its own advantage and disadvantages. Advantages like in terms of communication. Whenever you are in a far place from your family, you can still reach your love ones through text message (Although calling and social media is considered to be more reliable nowadays.) In fact, Philippines seem to be the last among the countries in the world to use excessive text messages. America and other countries are more into emails and social media these days.

B. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The objective of the study is to show to the readers how big the effect of using shortened words to teenagers and how it is affecting their literacy.

C. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The significance of this study is for the Filipino teenagers to realize among themselves how big their grammar and vocabulary is affected by shortened words in text messages and other online lingos.

CHAPTER III

In the table below, you will see how many male and female respondents there are who answered the questionnaire.

The table shows that 55% of the respondents are female and 45% of them are male.

RESEARCH PROCEDURE:

1) Jurgen thinks about our topic and what our title will be.

2) Jurgen made the questionnaire and Jayvy typed and printed it out.

3) Along with Christal, Perry and Jaime, we divided the 40 questionnaires and survey it out to the GNHS students.

4) Next, Jurgen and her sister made the statistics and came out with the results.

5) We computed the percentage

Example: 15 persons ÷ 40 (no of respondents) x 100 = 32.5%

6) Jayvy made the graph and we interpreted all of it.
