To Drill or Not to Drill? That Is the Question

With fuel prices rising to highest ever seen over the last couple years to drill on the United States soil is the big question. I personally fill that drilling is an excellent way to help lower the fuel prices. The United States has been too dependent on other countries supply, causing a large fluctuation in price due to supply and demand. The United States receives a large amount of its oil from country like Iraq, Lybia, and Brazil. When trouble occurs in one of these countries where the United States receives there oil, production slows down and the prices per barrel of oil climb making the price per gallon of fuel increase for use the consumers. Drilling off the Gulf Coast, Alaska, and other areas within our country only makes since. Drilling in the United States would allow us to have more control over the prices of oil per barrel.

Some of the things that hinder my thinking when looking at the opposing view are paying the higher fuel costs witch when the fuel cost increase so do other consumer needs. Examples of that are the cost of food, other house hold needs, and even clothing. Another thing that hinders my thinking is as an American/U.S. citizen I see the control is held by foreign countries. Some of the things that I can do to help me overcome the way I think are to educate myself better on the new technologies, such as solar power and clean coal and I could also study the reports on oil drilling in the United States. According to an article from the university library:

The article reports that the U.S. is carrying out a major move towards drilling for oil off its coasts. However, a 2007 study by the U.S. Department of Energy found that oil production from the continental states would only increase by 7% in 2030 if offshore drilling was allowed. Consequently, Nicholas Pardi of the U.S. Department of the Interior presents his argument that the area has not been surveyed since 1970 and the figures of...
