Dear Ben,

Lately you and I have not spent much time together, we aren’t as good of friends, and were each headed down two totally different paths. I’m not writing this letter to cure our friendship though; this letter is about much more than that. I know you started drinking alcohol on the weekends at the end of the summer, but know I’m not even sure if you even realize how far you have taken it.

You spend all your time with that college kid Jason. You have to realize that Jason doesn’t want the best for you. You two spend almost every school night at his apartment getting drunk. You come home late and have no care in the world about what your parents think. And every night you don’t hang out with Jason but you hang out with me, you just talk and talk about how much better your life is with alcohol. I hate to say it but you have turned into this awful, reckless teenager. Your abuse has made you into someone I can’t stand to be around. Do you think kids at school like you? Do you think you’re fun to be around? Do you think the grades you have been making are going to get you into college?

You need to start thinking about the consequences. My cousin Rodney started drinking at the same age you did Ben. He became an alcoholic. By the time Rodney was 20 years old he had been to Jail twice, and served 6 months on house arrest. He led the life of extreme alcohol abuse. He began stealing from his own family when he needed more money for alcohol. He died Ben! He killed himself behind the wheel of his car driving drunk. Please do not end up like Rodney dude.

Please get some professional help Ben. I know your parents would be willing to pay for counseling, and I promise you I would be right there with you along the way like a true friend. I don’t want to see you fail out of school, lose your family and friends, and lead yourself into a tragic ending to life my cousin Rodney. I am really here for you, don’t ever forget it.
