Scenario 1

1. Would changing the antennas to a different type reduce the amount of signal spilling outside the building? (5 points)

Changing specific antennas to a directional antenna could reduce the amount of signal spilling outside of the building, although it could also cause a lowering of signal strength within the building itself. A proper site survey would have to be done to ensure that the antenna being replaced. It is important to evaluate which antenna is causing the most signal spilling and replace that specific antenna.

2. If changing the antennas would reduce the signal spill, what type of antenna would you recommend? (5 points)

Hawking HAI6SDP/HAI6SDA Directional Antenna

A directional antenna such as the Hawking antenna above, if placed in optimal locations, would reduce the signal spillover by focusing the signal in the direction the antenna is being pointed, instead of 360 degrees like the omni-directional antennas that are in place now.

3. Would relocating the access points to a different part of the building reduce the amount of signal spilling outside the building? (5 points)

Relocation of the access points to a different part of the building could definitely reduce the amount of signal spilling outside the building. The rule of thumb would be to start by relocating the access points closest to the signal spillover area and then perform a site survey to ensure that all areas in the building are still covered by a strong signal.

4. Would changing the power level of the access points reduce the amount of signal spilling outside the building? If it would, would this cause any other problems? (5 points)

Lowering the power level on the access points would reduce the amount of signal spilling outside the building, because the signal would not reach as far since the power is lower. This can also reduce the signal for the actual building...
