GEORGIA-SINGAPORE CONNECTION

GOVERNMENT & COMMERCE The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Washington D.C. has jurisdiction over the state of Georgia. It is led by Professor Chan Heng Chee, Ambassador. The Georgia Department of Economic Development attended the Franchising and Licensing Asia 2008 show in Singapore. Five Georgia-based companies representing Cinnabon®, Foot Solutions®, Maggie Moo’s®, Marble Slab Creamery®, and 3 Palms Hotels & Resorts® exhibited their products at the show. TRADE RELATIONSHIP In 2008 Singapore ranked as the 8th largest export destination from Georgia, and Georgia ranked 10th among states exporting to Singapore. Georgia was the leader among states in exports of textile floor coverings and fats and oils to Singapore in 2087. The state was 2nd in aircraft and spacecraft and manmade staple fibers. Georgia was 3rd in exports of vehicles, not railway, knit apparel, prepared meat, and impregnated textile fibers. In 2008 Georgia exported $806 million worth of goods. The Port of Savannah ranked 4th in 2008 among ports receiving imports from Singapore. Singapore ranked 10th among countries importing goods into Georgia. Primary imports include pharmaceutical products, machinery, optics and medical instruments, organic chemicals, and electrical machinery.
