1. Nielsen Media Research shooting in dark with decisions to allocate resources for gathering information for its clients spread across separate databases. No single database provided a complete picture of a client and its needs, nor was there any single system that indicated who had last talked to whom within the client organization. To gain greater insight into its relationship with its clients and to discover new service opportunities, Nielsen Media has to consolidate the information from all these separate databases.

Neilson Media Success lies on a foundation of Shared Values-quality service and relationships, mutual trust and integrity.

Strategic Goals and Plans: Nielsen Media promised to Clients to do better without action steps to fulfill the promise made. They have made a promise to customers without putting long-term action plan. Manager’s lack of vision in anticipating the spike in data and technology changes are considered as poor long-term planning. The management failed to analyze and interpret the messages they have received from internal and external sources and ignored the serious threats that they are getting from cable and satellite companies that are providing almost real time date to customers.

Tactical goals and Plans: Resource Managers have not developed tactical plans to ensure cross training to employees so that they can switch jobs during off peak times to prevent burnouts and to supervise temporary plans to process data in better way. Technical Managers do not have proper plan to overcome the crisis on computer servers to process increased data. There is no plan of action until and the human and Computers are strained.

Operational Goals and Plans: Operational Managers failed to define results expected from departments and specify the action steps. Managers also failed to properly define work schedules to process high volume data in defined time frames.
