1. Active immunity- immunity produced by exposure to antigens: immunity generated by the production of antibodies by the body when it is exposed to antigens.

2. Allergen- substance causing allergy: any substance that causes an allergic reaction.

3. Allografts- tissue graft between genetically different organisms: a graft of tissue from one member of a species to a genetically different member of the same species.

4. Anaphylactic shock- allergic reaction: a sudden severe and potentially fatal allergic reaction in somebody sensitive to a substance, marked by a drop in blood pressure, difficulty in breathing, itching, and swelling.

5. Antibodies- protein that fights infections: a protein produced by B cells in the body in response to the presence of an antigen, e.g. a bacterium or virus.

6. Antigen- substance that stimulates production of antibody: a substance, usually a protein, on the surface of a cell or bacterium that stimulates the production of an antibody.

7. Autoimmune disease- allergic reaction to own body: a disease caused by the reaction of antibodies to substances occurring naturally in the body.

8. Complement- one of two: either of two things that form a unit.

9. Fever- unusually high body temperature: a body temperature that is unusually high, usually caused by bacterial or viral infections and commonly accompanied by shivering, headache, and an increased pulse rate.

10. Immunity- resistance to disease: a body's ability to resist a disease. Immunity may exist naturally or as a result of inoculation or previous infection.

11. Interferon- protein produced against viral infection: a protein produced by cells in response to virus infection that inhibits viral replication.

12. Lymph- body fluid containing white cells: a fluid containing white cells, chiefly lymphocytes, that is drained from tissue spaces by the vessels of the lymphatic system. It can transport bacteria, viruses, and cancer cells.
