Formal Analysis of Art

Art today is so different from the times of caveman found art painting. We have changed from that time period; we are in a whole new era of art. Art consisting of drawings, paintings, sculptures, movies, plays, just about anything to make a lasting impression. Art can give you emotions of being happy, sad or even angry. Just depends on the surroundings, and time frame. But its beauty is freedom of expression. I enjoy looking at different styles of paintings; Realism, Abstract Expressions and American Modernism.

Learning recently a few art works from famous artist from our past. We have visual explanations on how the artists painting are expressing themselves in the painting they paint. It was very interesting to learn about Vincent van Gogh’s paintings and his short life. His art had inspired today’s artist, to be freer with their art works. Vincent van Gogh’s painting of The Starry Night was some of the most personally expressive in the history of art (Henry M.Sayre, 2010, p.62). He would see things differently, than other artist. His two paintings that are well known is The Starry Night and the Sower. His struggle with color in The Starry Night was one of many painting he had painted with some difficulties. His other painting Sower was also painted with colors off. He was always in touch with his brother Theo and wrote to him on his paintings. His emotions in his paintings were off color, not real like. They unknown to him, opened up a gateway of new way of looking at art. He may have been going through hard times when he was alive; he became well known and famous for his art work that is so unique for his time frame.

Artist Diego Velazque’s Las Meninas (The Maids of Honor) painting was said to be a somewhat controversial. Controversial in the way how it is portrayed. Many people have different explanation of what the child in the middle was looking at. Where were her mother...
