In a leadership position, I have a responsibility to my team. They look to me for guidance and strength, that's part of what being a leader, is. So I constantly question myself before I ask someone to do something, will I be willing to do so if I was being challenged. When leaders don't "practice what they preach," it is almost impossible for a team to work together successfully. How can anyone trust a leader who talks about one thing, but does another? They may not trust that you're doing the right thing, or that you know what you're talking about. They may no longer believe in you. The vision you're trying so hard to make happen may lose its appeal, all because your team doesn't trust you anymore

The component of a leader requires motivation and vision to command authority and has the wisdom to plan, control, and execute these directives in a leadership manner. The none commissioned officer or officer also indicates, that a leaders duty is to foster a spirit of togetherness to facilitate overall success growth and happiness in the building of the team It is very important to lead by example anywhere but even more so in the Canadian Forces the reason that it is important is that we as team members must have effective leadership to work well as a section, platoon, company and battery.
