Introduction

The communication process that officers use when they request assistance, relay information and provide the information related to an accident to the department, other officers, and dispatch of the suspect is very important. Officers today use different types of technologies as resources and tools to obtain and transmit required information thru the proper channels. A few of the technologies used by officers include police radios, dash cams, ankle monitors, DNA, and mobile communication devices. Officers use these technologies to assist them in communicating to the different agencies. There are new technologies that currently are not being used currently by officers that include DNA nanotechnologies and heart rate pulse detection systems which can prove to be a major asset to officers during interrogation and interviews. The continual development and advancement in technologies will prove to be beneficial to law enforcement agencies to enhance and improve the communication between departments, dispatch centers and other officers.

The continuous communication that an officer maintains with dispatch is vital to convey and relay needed information to the department and other officers in order to dispatch assistance where it is needed. With dispatch centers it is their responsibility to gather accurate and complete information for 99 callers in order to dispatch officers in a rapid time. If a dispatch center dispatches inaccurate or incomplete information to officers it can lead to the officers being in danger. With this dispatch plays a major role in communicating to the officer to prepare them for the situation they are being dispatched to.
