1.0 Introduction

The exponential growth of information has made it crucial for learning to happen quickly. New thinking about how we acquire knowledge and skills as well as how we develop learning resources that can keep up with the knowledge economy are required in order to meet this challenge. The introduction of Information Communications Technology (ICT) and the Internet has significantly influenced the way knowledge is conveyed. This has resulted in the development of online learning.

Online learning which also known as e-learning has many definitions. Listed here are some of them;

• “The delivery of a learning, training or education program by electronic means. E-learning involves the use of a computer or electronic device (e.g. a mobile phone) in some way to provide training, educational or learning material.” (Derek Stockley 2003)

• “E-Learning refers to the use of Internet technologies to deliver a broad array of solutions that enhance knowledge and performance” (Rosenberg, 2001).

• “Web-based training (WBT), also known as e-learning and online learning is training that resides on a server or host computer that is connected to the World Wide Web. (Allison Rossett 2001) 

• “Broad combination of processes, content, and infrastructure to use computers and networks to scale and/or improve one or more significant parts of a learning value chain, including management and delivery”. (Clark Adrich, 2004)

1. Overview

Online learning has grown immensely over the past several years as technology has been integrated into education and training. A significant number of higher educational institutions have embraced online learning. In Malaysia, online learning is introduced to students undergoing open and distance learning (ODL) programmed.
