Description

After Robin Martin Jones graduated college with her business degree she became a “Fast Tracker” when she started her new career with a Fortune 500 company. Through hard work and determination Robin was selected into the top MBA program along with one other woman and three men and the program was paid for by the company. After graduating near the top of her class she began to steadily move up through the company keeping pace with her MBA class mates. After settling down into a mid-level management position during this time she was married and went on maternity leave. After Robin’s maternity leave was over she returned to work with the plan to do the 80 percent flexible work arrangement. Even with this plan in motion Robin was able to accomplish the objectives of other managers even though they worked full-time schedule. Robin decided it was time for a change and started looking for opportunity for advancement. After several interviews and being recommended by her counterparts she realized she was being passed over. She also observed that her three male MBA classmates were rising steadily in the organization. Out of frustration, Robin quit her job and formed a startup company.

Diagnosis

After Robin started with the Fortune 500 Company and being labeled as a “Fast Tracker” she moved easily through the company. She was unaccustomed to being passed over for positions and became upset when she was passed over several times. Even though Robin was informed before she started her career at the Fortune 500 Company just how far other women had advanced in the company she assumed this meant working women that were mothers of little children. Robin feels that she is being treated unequally compared to the men just because she is a working mother she is more than able to balance her work and family life and continue perform at the superior level she was before becoming a mother.
