Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act known as HIPAA are the disclosure of medical record information, which maintain privacy rules of the disclosure of patient’s information’s and identity. HIPAA privacy rule is an important Federal regulation that passed by congress in 1996. The health care setting which HIPAA will be used in all health care setting such as Hospitals, clinics, pharmacy, insurance companies, health care providers, and health data that transmit or store patient data electronically( David,2001). All health care providers need to obey and abide by the HIPAA rules and regulation to avoid any illegal liabilities.
Electronic medical record Electronic medical record known as EMR, which are medical records of patients or individuals that are authorized and viewed by health care professionals in an organization. The health care setting that uses Electronic medical record are physicians’ offices, medical health professional, and hospitals. Healthcare organization can input or view patient records, communications, legal documents, billing and quality management (Wagner, lee, Glaser & Burn 2009). This is where all data of patients care generated.
Electronic health record Electronic health records are electronic records that are health information of patients, which generated electronically of the populations of individual patient’s health information. The health care setting that uses Electronic health record is physicians’ offices, pharmacist, government and the private sectors of health care organizations, and health insurance companies. These organizations include data of patient history of their medical history, medications, allergies, Demographics, lab results, radiology images, and billing information. This system has the benefit of verifying patient’s health information within different healthcare organizations.
