PERFORAMANCE APPRAISAL

I'm currently employed for an employment company called SMS in Detroit , MI. Our staff often hire and interview applicants for various of positions in and outside our company. SMS has conducted several performance appraisals for clients that are staffed from our company.

SMS conducts performance appraisals periodically to assess an individual employee's job performance and productivity level. The importance of performance appraisals is important for organizations. "Employees work needs to be aligned with the organization's overall goals , and clear performance feedback helps everyone to know if this is indeed happening. In fact , a well-designed performance expectations and include information that will help them perform at the highest level possible"(Pulakos & O'leary , 2011).

Performance appraisals are used for several reasons: to increase worker motivation , administrative decisions , to establish training requirements , and to enhance selection and testing processes and outcomes. SMS conducts quarterly reviews for employees that are in management positions. Evaluations are often conducted to evaluate the performance of each employee. "Without this link between performance and rewards , employees can become less motivated , resulting in poorer performance. Indeed , research shows that supervisors performance ratings are more strongly correlated to employee's actual performance than any other rating source(Becker & Klimoski , 1989)."
