1. Define each of the following terms.

Data-stored representation of objects and events that have meaning and importance in the user’s environments.

Information-data that have been processed in suh a way as to increase the knowledge of the person who uses it.

Metadata-data that describe the properties or characteristics of end-user data, and the context of the data.

Database applications-an application program (or set of related programs) that is used to perform a series of database activities (create, read, update and delete) on behalf of the database user’s.

Data warehouse-an integrated decision support database whose content is derived from the various operational databases.

Constraint-a rule that cannot be violated by data base user’s.

Database-an organized collection of logically created related data.

Entity-a person, place object event, or concept in the user environment about which the organization wishes to maintain data.

Data base mgt system-a software system that is used to create, maintain, and provide controlled access to user database.

3.Constrast the following terms:

Data dependence: data independence

Data dependence mean the data is dependence application programme. When we change in data so also change on application program which we use. Data independence mean data is independent on application programme or vice versa . If we change the data so there is no change in application.

Structured data; unstructured data

Structured data- data that is organized in a structure so that it is identifiable. Unstructured data has no identifiable structured.
