Mineral and Water Function Essay

Minerals are an essential part to life. Minerals have two functions in the body, building and regulating. Building functions affect the bones and all the soft tissue. Regulating functions affect metabolism, heartbeat, blood clotting, water balance, blood pressure, nerves, oxygen transport and energy release. The benefit of drinking coconut water is that it is rich with minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, enzymes and growth factors. It is used to relieve or ease dehydration, fatigue, constipation, and other digestive disturbances. Studies have shown it is recognized for reducing the risk of high blood pressure.

Your body cannot function without water. Your body needs water to moisten food (saliva), digest food (gastric secretions), transport nutrients to and from cells (blood), discord waste (urine), and dissipate heat (sweat). Water is a major component of the cells in muscles and organs. Different body parts have different water contents, for example, blood is 93% water, muscle is 73% water and body fat is 10% water.

Water constantly moves between the inside and outside of cells. About four to ten percent of your body water gets replaced every day with fresh water. Sodium is the more important electrolyte to replace during exercise. The general effects of dehydration form lack of water are increased thirst, urine output will decrease to conserve water loss, eyes will stop making tears, sweating may stop, muscle cramps will occur, nausea and vomiting, heart palpitations, lightheadedness, when standing up, weakness and decreases urine output. Dehydration if not addressed quickly, can cause death. Many individuals become dehydrated every year due to the high effects of heat in the atmosphere. Drinking the daily required amounts of water each day will help prevent the body from becoming dehydrated.
