Managing a project is an ever changing process that requires project details to be reviewed and reorganized continuously. According to Kerzner (2006) “Successful project management is defined as achieving project objectives within time and budget, at the desired performance, while utilizing assigned resources, which produces an end result that is accepted by the customer (para. 10). The Huduma Foundation has been contracted to relocate eight elephants to Ungoba National Park. The details of this project require sound decision making and swift action.

Perspective of a Project Manager

Poachers have threatened the survival of the elephant herd in Ungoba National Park. However, there is an abundance of elephants in the Zakinaka National Park. The Huduma Foundation begins a project to relocate eight elephants from Zakinaka National Park to Ungoba National Park. The details and objectives of the project are complex and the timing of each ones completion is important. Project managers do their best to plan for every instance, but as the simulation shows it can sometimes be a daunting task. The role a project manager plays is far more complex than what is on the surface. At first glance a project manager is thought to be a simple organizer of resources. However, a project manager’s job requires much more. The project manager for the Huduma Foundation must create a schedule of events for the project team to follow while executing their responsibilities. The precise planning required for this project is tested when Mother Nature stirs up a storm at the airport the project manager planned to land the plane carrying the elephants. The project manager must decide what to do quickly taking into account the risk and time factors. Instances such as this, are what makes a project managers role more complex than what one might think.
