Motivation

Motivation
Motivation is the key to success. I believe this statement because motivation has helped me get to where I am today. Motivation- “is the desire to achieve a goal or a certain performance level, leading to goal-directed behavior” (Bauer and Erdogan, 2010,). When it comes to motivation you have to not only know what you want but you have to be willing to act on it. I have learned over the years that motivation is what has driven me to do my best and excel in life. How can one develop motivation that leads to a successful life? I will tell you how motivation has gotten me to where I am today. My life is a prime example of motivation.
Motivation has helped me grow into the young lady that I am today. As a young girl I had dreams and goals that I was determined to reach. I didn’t just set any goal for myself. My goals meant something to me. My goals required commitment and action. I had smart goals. Smart goals- “is a goal that is specific, measurable, aggressive, realistic, and time-bound” (Bauer and Erdogan, 2010,). I can remember writing my goals down and sharing them with my family and friends. Most importantly I prayed to God about the goals I had set for myself. When I was in the first grade I could not read very well. I had to repeat the first grade because my reading was so poor. It was not until my grandfather started tutoring me that I felt motivated. I begin to encourage myself. Once I believed that I could do it I got better. I just got better and better. When I got to the fourth grade I had gotten so good at reading my teachers and the principal decided it was time to put me back in my correct grade level. I believe once I got motivated I studied more and I enjoyed it.
