Creating a Plan for Positive Influence

Albert Einstein once said “setting an example is not the main means of influencing others; it is the only means." (Goodreads Inc, 2009). Humans have the ability to inspire others by our actions, behavior, emotions and performance, individuals lead by example. Learning teams are beneficial because they offer a sense of experience, knowledge, and belonging one may not achieve when working individually. Team-based learning can be helpful in dealing with a number of situations that can be and often are particularly challenging for large group projects. People with different backgrounds, education and job experience can come up with various solutions to projects and assignments. A team can find mistakes an individual might miss in a task. In this paper I will discuss certain motivations and factors such as attitudes and personalities that influences behavior amongst learning teams members.

In terms of motivation, Maslow stated that every human has a hierarchy of five needs: Physiological, safety, social, esteem and self-actualization. Maslow’s theory is acknowledged by practicing managers and can be adopted by our learning team in order to know every humans basic needs as individuals than as a whole (Robbins & Judge, 2007, chap. 6). In order to increase motivation setting goals will allow each individual an objective. According to the Goal-Setting theory, setting goals allows employees or group members to produce higher levels of output and an increase in performance in order to achieve the goal of the group (Robbins & Judge, chap. 6). The main reason we complete our goals, projects, jobs is to reap the benefit of rewards. Whether it be for a degree, a good grade, or a promotion individuals seek rewards for a job well done. Rewards are good motivators for projects; in this case the learning team would be rewarded by receiving a good grade on the team project.
