Abstract
Walt Disney is an iconic name that brings with it a sense of magic and entertainment. One of the largest media conglomerate’s in the world, Disney maintains one of the largest market shares in the media industry, owning such iconic companies as ABC, Miramax and Pixar. With significant product lines including world-renown theme parks, musical franchisees and a variety of other holdings, Disney is a major corporate entity with some of the most advanced human resources strategies in the world.
As Disney prepares to expand its theme park product into the Chinese markets, several important factors exist that necessitate a close examination of the cultural and contextual environments that exist in China and Disney’s response within the human resources perspective.
Introduction
Disney maintains numerous theme parks throughout the world including in Orlanda, Anaheim, Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong. This portion of the organization is a small but important player in the overall Disney dynasty – sharing the stage with ABC, Pixar and other notable alumn.
As Disney continues its eastward expansion into Asia, considerable issues arise that require a careful analysis – particularly the role that the cultural disparity will play in human resources arena and how that disparity can and should be understood, managed and ultimately mitigated.
