The overall changes and or advancement of technology within the health care industry have rehabilitated everyday life and health care that comes as no surprise. It is extremely vital for health care providers and staff to effectively and accurately communicate with their patients, as well as for the patients to reach out to their providers in case of an emergency or in their time of need. Communication by way of electronic health records (EHR) has been proven to be beneficial to both, the health care providers as well as the health care provider’s patients as well as the health facilities staff or personnel. This paper will discuss why EHRs are an effective mode of communication, how EHRs differ from other forms of communication, how providers could benefit from promoting their EHR system as well as how EHRs aid to maintaining a patient’s privacy.

“EHRs are vital to the improvement in the quality of health care as well as in perfecting patient safety. EHRs give health care providers the ability to diminish medical errors and repetition of services by having the patients’ information available in one place.” (Berg, 1997). One step closer in accomplishing this task is with the electronic health record (EHR) system. This electronic health records system permits doctors' offices and hospitals to store the complete medical history of their patients electronically, which is a valuable tool to increase the facilities efficiencies.
