The Motorcycle Diaries

This movie was based on the travels of a man named Ernesto Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado as they start an adventure that takes them through South America. The two friends leave Buenos Aires by motorcycle to hopefully see as much of Latin America as they can before they work in a leper colony in Peru. They being their journey going west to Patagonia, then they go north through the rugged terrain of the Andes Mountains. They then travel to Macho Piccho and then to the San Pablo Leper Colony in the Peruvian Amazon. Finally, they travel through Columbia to the Guarja Peninsula in Venezuela, which is the most northern tip of South America. As they travel through Buenos Aires, Argentina the terrain looks to mainly be flat and used probably for farming. They then travel through Miramar, Argentina where the culture seems to change even from Buenos Aires where many people in this area are of European descent and wealthy. The land in Miramar is very temperate forestry type land, which reminds me of some of the land here in Tennessee that we are used to seeing. I also noticed that the grazing of cattle is a way of living for many people who live in South America and that the main actors speak Spanish with European tints to it because a lot of the words are differently pronounced. Once the actors get to Chile the terrain starts to become very rugged, rocky, and cold. Chile is also where they will encounter their first snow. The main characters come across many people who seem to have German cultured last names which were odd to me seeing as to how far South America is from Germany. Their currency was the peso and I noticed that throughout the movie they kept fighting over fifteen dollars which showed me how much worth the dollar had in South America at this time.
