College requirements should not be stricter for homeschoolers

If you look at the founding fathers of this country most of them were taught at home. They did not go to a school to learn but instead learned under their mother’s watchful eye. It was not until the 1840’s that public schools were joined together under the government. But even though homeschooling is one of the oldest forms of education it is looked down upon. Even though most of our founding fathers and quite a few of our presidents were homeschooled it is often hard for homeschoolers to get into college. The reason for this is that quite a few colleges require much more from their homeschool applicants than from their public or private schooled applicants. These Colleges should not have stricter requirements for applicants just because they were homeschooled; since accredited private schools are treated just the same as public schools.

The first thing that comes to one’s mind happens to be is it so hard for homeschoolers to get into college. Or they say that it is not that hard for homeschoolers to get into their college. While it is true that it is not hard for homeschoolers at some colleges, at others there are many hoops to jump through. Homeschoolers have no idea what they need for what colleges and in what state their diploma will be official. An article by Richard Morgan quotes Sean Callaway stating “Essentially, there are 50 different definitions of when a student is finished with school—one for each state” (Homeschooling: growing force). With so many different requirements it is hard for a homeschooler to know what is required to get in. For example at Georgia Tech the requirements for homeschool admissions are on top of the S.A.Ts , a homeschool documentation form and “Demonstration of proficiency in English, Math and Chemistry through college coursework, SAT Subject Tests, AP/IB test scores, or a combination of these” (Homeschool Admission).
