Week 5 Assignment

1. The results on the case incident really surprised me. I was not expecting the United States to be number fifteen. I though they would be in the top five. I knew South Korea would be very high because most of products are made there. I also knew Mexico would be pretty high because they work to survive. The jobs pay very poorly, but they work their hearts out so they can put food on the table for their families.

2. I think U.S. employees have a reputation for “living to work” because that is the way to survive in the United States. You have to have a job or career in order to have a place to live or in order to eat. It is a way of life to live your life in working. That is how the country was founded, and that is how the country stays in control of their finances.

3. These results do not prove that Koreans are more motivated to work than the U.S. because Korea does not have labor laws. They have kids who work because they have to, and some people work so they do not get shot. The results given are only showing the average hours a worker in each country works. All this shows is numbers, so we cannot conduct a real conclusion as to which country is more motivated.

4. The theory of motivation that relates to workers working less when taxes are higher and working more when taxes are lower goes under the need theory. When taxes are high, the more the government takes out of your paycheck, and the more you work, the more money they take out. So if the tax rate is low, then workers work more so that taxes do not take much out of their paycheck. People need money, and everyone will get as much money as they possibly can.
