This essay requires writer to talk about leadership, starting from its history, leadership theories, types of leader, its application and so on. Writer made this essay as a form of substitute because writer missed a compulsory Leadership Training and Team building that were made by Jakarta International College and also writer did not inform Jakarta International College about writer absence. We all know that leadership is a much-needed element in an organization and it is important for writer to know and understand leadership.

Writer believes that leadership is already exists from a long time ago, because there are many outstanding buildings that were made before century, examples given are Pyramids, Taj Mahal, Candi Borobudur, Candi Prambanan, The Great Wall of China and many more. It is safe to say that it is impossible for this building to be built without any form of leadership. “The term leadership has been in existence only since the late 1700s (Stogdill, 1974, 29). Even then, scientific research on the topic did not begin until the 20th century (Bass, 1981)” (Seters and Field, 1990). These are the eras of leadership according to Seters and Field; The Personality Era, The Influence Era, The Behaviour Era, The Situation Era, The Contingency Era, The Transactional Era, The Anti-Leadership Era, The Culture Era, and The Transformational Era, (Seters and Field, 1990).

The first form leadership era or theory is The Personality (Seters and Field, 1990), “this era is divided into the Great Man Period and the Train Period.”, (Seters and Field, 1990, 30). In the Great Man Period it is believed that a person who copied the personalities and behaviours of great men and some women in this era could become a great leader (Seters and Field, 1990), although in further notice it is not easy to imitate a person’s personality so it only provided little value (Seters and Field, 1990).
